Do I need a G.P/ Dr/ specialist referral? You do not need a referral from your GP/Specialist/Consultant to get your bloods done at Bloodhub. We are a nurse led phlebotomy clinic you can simply book your appointment online via www.bloodhub.ie.
-
How do I prepare for my appointment? Please come to your appointment well hydrated.
-
What can I expect at the appointment? The blood collection usually takes about 10 minutes. Our Nurse Phlebotomist will take a small amount of blood, usually from the inside of your elbow, using a needle. You’ll feel a scratch as the needle goes in, which may be a bit uncomfortable. Your blood will be collected in a small tube which will be sent to a lab for testing. After the test, you'll usually be given some cotton wool or a plaster to cover the area where the blood was taken. You may get some bruising or swelling around the area where your blood was taken, but this should go away after a few days.
-
What if you can’t find a vein?A small proportion of patients find it difficult to provide a blood sample. If this is the case for you we will try a second blood draw during the appointment and if required a follow appointment will be made and you will be advised on how to prepare for this.
-
Do I need to fast beforehand? Some blood tests require you to be fasting prior to the blood collection. Please check our website for details on which panels require you to fast. If you need to fast please do not eat or drink liquids (other than water) for at least 10 hours prior to your appointment.
-
What if I take medications?Unless you receive specific instructions from your doctor or nurse, you should continue taking your current medications as prescribed before a fasting blood test.
-
How do I get my blood results?Your results will be emailed to the email address provided on booking (usually between 24 and 72 hours after your test).
-
Will my results be interpreted? The BloodHub service specialises on getting our clients quick access to an accredited blood testing service without the need for a referral. Our laboratory partner will provide some general interpretation of your results. We do not provide any additional interpretation. We highly recommend that you seek expert guidance from your GP/Specialist/Consultant if you have any concerns.
-
What do I do if my blood results are abnormal? If your results are outside the expected range this will be indicated on the report from the laboratory. Results will be clear and easy to read. In this case we recommend you discuss your results with your GP/Specialist/ or Consultant.
-
